Doctor and Dentist

Being really busy this week, we have been following the schedule for homeschooling, just that I find that I hardly have time to do the recording and blog them for my reference.

We are focusing on two occupations each day for vocabulary where we learnt words link to the occupations, equipments used, etc. And we have been reading books related to these occupations. Kai was able to relate his own experiences too.

It was interesting to hear him tell me about his visit to the dentist and he has such fond memory of the particular dentist as she was able to bring herself down to his level, allowing him to try to continue the dental chair, show him how the drills, polisher works and how to fill up his cup with water. He also learnt his technique of washing his teeth and tongue from this dentist. And he remembered that she used a new glove, blown it up into a balloon for him and drew a smiley face on it for him beside giving him sticker for his cooperativeness during the checkup and clean-up session.

And when we went on to learn about the doctor and related vocabulary, he was able to talk about his paediatrican who he is very fond of.

We are having alot of fun reading and learning about all the words and equipments relating to these two occupations. We are working on the rest of the eight this weeks and moving on to work on more occupations (I hope to at least teach him 25-50 occupations.)

Occupations

Kai got very interested about the different types of job and occupations and he came and asked me about them. He was really interested to learn more about them and about the special vehicles and equipments they are using in their jobs.

We planned to spend this week and next weeks looking at occupations and learning more about them. And for a start, we are looking at a list of ten of them. We planned to learn 2 at a time during our lesson time and also read books about them.

Kai remembered a series we used to read when he was very young about occupations from Ladybird. I could not remember the whole series but will look out for them.

More about body parts

After coming back from our long walk, Kai requested that he wanted to watch Roary and Curious George. We spent about 30-45 minutes watching the two cartoons before moving on to look at more about our body parts.

Kai was keen to play hangman game on our body parts and we spent time reviewing the last list before moving on to learn the new list. He loves singing so we spent time singing some of the songs we have learnt. It was fun working on action songs.

Then we have alot of fun playing hangmen learning the new word list. And form sentences with the words.

Our body parts...

We have been discussing about our body parts and learning about them. Kai knows all of them when he was about 2 years old and we did an exercise on naming all the body parts where he matched the words to the parts. And he could match all of them correctly so I challenge him to master all the spelling of the words.

Kai emjoys songs, so we sang the song "Head and Shoulder, Knee and Toe" while learning about these words. And we sang alot more songs. (Lyrics of songs)

Kai was happy to learn and master the words for Spelling.
